Your Ultimate PMP Level-Up Guide!
Everything You Need to Know to Conquer the PMP Exam (and Actually Have Fun Doing It)
What is PMP Certification?
The Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is the world’s leading project management credential. Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), this certification proves you have the experience, education, and skills to lead projects with confidence—and it’s recognized across the globe.
Whether you’re managing small business projects, leading enterprise teams, or leveling up your leadership skills, the PMP certification gives you a serious edge. It can also boost your salary, open doors, and strengthen your resume.
Your Roadmap to PMP Certification
Follow these five steps to go from aspiring project manager to PMP-certified professional. Let’s break it down:
1. Confirm Your Eligibility
Before you can sit for the PMP exam, you’ll need to meet one of the following sets of requirements:
Option A: With a Four-Year Degree
- A four-year degree (bachelor’s or global equivalent)
- 36 months of project management experience—within the last 8 years
- 35 hours of project management training or a CAPM® certification
Option B: With a High School Diploma or GED
- A high school diploma or GED (or global equivalent)
- 60 months of project management experience—within the last 8 years
- 35 hours of project management training or a CAPM® certification
Tip: If you’ve been planning, leading, or organizing work efforts—even without a formal title—you likely have qualifying experience!
2. Get Trained, Prepare to Pass!
This is where the real momentum begins. To meet the 35-hour training requirement—and actually feel ready for the exam—you’ll need a solid PMP prep course.
When you train with Staci Warne, you’ll get more than just practice questions and process charts. You’ll get real-world tips, expert strategies, and a few extra tools to help you work smarter, not harder.
Staci’s Bonus Prep Tools:

This isn’t just about passing the exam—it’s about becoming the project manager everyone wants on their team.
3. Gather Your Information
PMI wants to verify your background, so get these details ready:
Project Experience
For each project you’ve worked on, be ready to provide:
- Project name and organization
- Your role and responsibilities
- Start and end dates
- Total time spent on the project (in months)
- Manager or key contact who can confirm your involvement
- Include name, title, and email or phone number
Project Management Education
List all qualifying training, including:
- Course titles and providers
- Completion dates
- Total qualifying hours (must add up to 35+)
- If you have the CAPM certification, you can skip this part!
